Joseph Rimassa, 98, of Manasquan, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 11, 2017 in Hamilton Square, NJ surrounded by his family. Joseph was born in New York City, NY and raised in Newark, NJ. He attended Seton Hall Prep and entered the military in June of 1941. He served in the Army Air Corp 8th Air Force out of England on B-24 Liberator Bombers as a radio operator/gunner. Joseph accomplished 28 of 30 missions, shot down on his 28th mission over Mintzburg, Germany on November 26, 1944. He was captured and became a prisoner...

Joseph Rimassa, 98, of Manasquan, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 11, 2017 in Hamilton Square, NJ surrounded by his family. Joseph was born in New York City, NY and raised in Newark, NJ. He attended Seton Hall Prep and entered the military in June of 1941. He served in the Army Air Corp 8th Air Force out of England on B-24 Liberator Bombers as a radio operator/gunner. Joseph accomplished 28 of 30 missions, shot down on his 28th mission over Mintzburg, Germany on November 26, 1944. He was captured and became a prisoner of war until the end of May, 1945 when he was liberated by the Soviet Army.

After the war, Joseph went into the restaurant business as a chef at Perri's Restaurant in Newark, NJ and later at Pat's Diner in Belmar, retiring in 1983.

Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Claire. He is survived by his 3 sons, Paul Rimassa and his wife Mary of Hamilton Square, NJ, Peter Rimassa and his wife Anna Maria of Point Pleasant Boro, NJ, and John Rimassa and his wife Song Hui of Staten Island, NY; and 3 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sara and Tae Haun.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 11am at St. Catharine's Cemetery, 1100 West Chicago Blvd. Sea Girt, NJ. Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street, Manasquan, NJ is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
